How many queen size bricks per square foot?
Queen size brick, 3 × 2-3/4 × 8 in, lays 5.5 per sq ft with ⅜ inch joints (550 per 100 square feet, BIA). A 100 square foot wall takes 578 bricks with 5% extra.
How to work it out
- 12.5 ft × 8 ft = 100 sq ft
- × 550 per 100 sq ft (BIA, ⅜ in joints) + 5% = 578 bricks
Queen brick is a narrower, taller brick used mostly for veneer on houses. At about 3 in deep (BIA lists 2¾ or 3 in) it saves space and weight compared with a 3⅝ in modular brick, and its taller face means fewer bricks per wall.

Queen vs modular and king
| Brick | Size (in) | Per sq ft | For 100 sq ft (+5%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modular | 3⅝ × 2¼ × 7⅝ | 6.75 | 709 |
| Queen | 3 × 2¾ × 8 | 5.50 | 578 |
| King | 3 × 2¾ × 9¾ | 4.55 | 478 |
Queen brick doesn’t follow the 8 in modular grid: five courses of 2¾ in brick with ⅜ in joints rise 15⅝ in, so window and door heads may not land on a whole course. Lay out a story pole before you start.
Ordering
Queen and king brick are sizes made by particular plants, so the exact dimensions vary; check the size of the brick you choose and recheck the count if it differs. Veneer also needs ties to the wall behind and flashing at the base, which your plans and local code cover.
