About Easy Masonry Calc

Easy Masonry Calc is a set of free calculators for concrete and masonry projects: cubic yards and bags for slabs, footings, tube forms, fence posts, steps and countertops; ready-mix orders, rebar and wire mesh; and block, brick, mortar, grout, stucco and stone veneer. Each one shows the formula it uses, so you can check the math yourself or redo it on the back of a receipt at the store.

The numbers are planning estimates. Bag yields, block sizes and mortar use vary between brands and with how carefully the work is done, so where a figure comes from a data sheet the page says so and names the source, listed under “Sources” on each calculator. Footing sizes, frost depth, slab thickness and reinforcement for anything structural come from your plans and local building code, not from this site — your building department has the final word.

It is part of a small family of free project calculators that began with Easy Scale Calc (opens in a new tab). The site is supported by advertising and by Amazon affiliate links on product recommendations; neither changes what the calculators say. If you spot an error or want a calculator added, the contact page is the place to say so.

How we build and check the calculators

  • Every calculator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere.
  • Each page shows its formula, and every result shows the working with your own numbers, so you can check it by hand.
  • Volumes use standard conversions (27 cubic feet in a cubic yard, 1,000 litres in a cubic metre). Bag, block and brick counts are rounded up, and waste allowances are shown and editable.
  • Bag yields, coverages, block and brick sizes and mortar figures come from manufacturer data sheets and industry technical notes linked on each page. The bag you buy is the final word — yields differ a little between brands.
  • Footing sizes, frost depth, slab thickness for structures and reinforcement spacing are left to your plans and local building code. The calculators count the materials for whatever those specify; they never recommend a structural size.
  • Every calculator is tested in both US and metric units, and every worked example is recomputed at build time so the numbers on the page always match the calculator.

How this content is made

The calculators, worked examples and guides on this site were drafted with the help of AI tools and then checked in several passes. Every number on a worked-example page is recomputed from the calculator at build time, so the text and the calculator can’t disagree. Published figures (bag yields, coverages, unit sizes, rebar weights, cure and weather guidance) are checked against the manufacturer data sheets, industry notes and government documents linked from each page.

Automated checks run on every build: each calculator is tested in US and metric units and unit switching must round-trip exactly. If you find an error, tell us — corrections are fixed and logged below.
